Courtney Love doesn’t want to be called that anymore. The musician and actress has decided that there is too much baggage associated with the name, so she’s not using it anymore. Instead, she is going by her birth name, Courtney Michelle. Oh, Courtney. You can change the name, but you can’t change the crazy!
Rock star Courtney Love has decided to stop using her stage name, claiming “Courtney Love is dead”.
“We’ve all decided we don’t like her any more,” the Hole singer told The NME magazine.
“We love her when she goes onstage, but I don’t need her in the rest of my life,” she added.
Asked how she would prefer to be addressed in the future, the star replied: “Courtney Michelle. The name Courtney Love is a way to oppress me.”
The singer and actress was born Courtney Michelle Harrison.
The 45-year-old is back on the road with her band, Hole, who release a new album, Nobody’s Daughter, later this month.
If I didn’t know better, I would swear that Courtney is sort-of getting her shit together. She’s back with Hole, where I personally think she was at her muscial best, and she hasn’t had a grammatically challenged Tweet-fest in a while. Maybe she is hoping to have custody of her teenaged daughter Frances returned to her before she’s 18? Who knows. Anyway, Courtney also informed the world that she will no longer be fielding questions about her late husband, Kurt Cobain. According to Court, she isn’t Kurt’s “spokesperson here on Earth.” While that is true, this news is a far cry from the woman who read her husband’s suicide note to a crowd of people at his memorial service.

The Hole singer wed the Nirvana frontman in 1992 when she was pregnant with their daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, but tragedy struck when he was found dead in his Seattle, Washington home just two years later (94).
Love has been candid about her relationship with Cobain in the past – but she’s tired of answering reporters’ questions about what her late husband would be like if he was still alive today.
She tells Britain’s NME magazine, “I am not his spokesperson on Earth. I don’t know what he’d be like now, he could be into society girls, he could be into fat girls, he could be homosexual. We don’t know, he died at 27.”
And Love admits she’s feeling even more lonely now she’s lost custody of Frances, now 17: “I’m ultimately a widow and a single mother, who’s not even getting to be a mother right now. I am so alone, it’s freaky.”
The teenager was placed under the temporary guardianship of her paternal grandmother and an aunt in December (09) after falling out with her mother.
Love was subsequently slapped with a restraining order by a U.S. judge, preventing her from contacting her daughter until their next court date later this year (10).
The singer is putting her wild days firmly behind her and is currently attempting to reinvent herself using her birth name Courtney Michelle.
As much as I will miss the old Courtney Love, I hope this isn’t another false start and she really does manage to hold herself together. The years have not been kind to her – and neither has she. But do I expect to see her start dressing age-appropriately and behaving herself at all times? Of course not. That’s just not her style, even on her best, most sober day. Perhaps being forced to live alone has been a good thing for her though.
